What are some of the best self-care practices we can use to help improve our mental wellness and mental well-being? In this interview series, How Each of Us Can Use Self-Care to Improve Our Mental Wellness, we are talking to medical doctors, mental health professionals, health and wellness professionals, and experts on self-care and mental health who are sharing insights from their experience. As part of this series, I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Dr. Janani Krishnaswami, M.D., M.P.H., from UWorld on the top five self-care practices that improve mental wellness.

Dr. Krishnaswami is one of few physicians triple-board-certified in Internal Medicine, General Preventive Medicine and Public Health, and Lifestyle Medicine, and works as a physician-author and content developer at UWorld, where she focuses on patient safety and medical quality, culturally sensitive care, prevention, and health equity. She practices primary care medicine at Academic Medical Associates, located at Baylor Medical Center in Irving, Texas, and is a telemedicine lifestyle medicine consultant and physician at both Medici, a virtual employee health platform, and Lin Health, a virtual service treating individuals with chronic pain. Her goal is to offer and promote medical care that not only treats symptoms but also prevents disease and improves long-term health and well-being.
