MIND Education Offers Sneak Peek of Neuroscience-Based InsightMath for ISTE Attendees
Session attendees will get a glimpse of the first elementary math program founded in the science of learning along with free food and beverages and a $50 gift card
IRVINE, Calif. (June 21, 2023) — MIND Education, an organization dedicated to ensuring that all students are mathematically equipped to solve the world’s most challenging problems, will offer ISTE attendees a sneak peek of InsightMath, a new elementary curriculum based on teaching mathematics the way every brain learns.
Less than half of students are proficient in math according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). More than literacy skills or positive student behaviors, early math skills are the number one predictor of later academic success. It's time for a change in math instruction.
Set to launch in Spring 2024, InsightMath builds on 25 years of applied research in neuroscience, instructional design, and program evaluation. From the creators of ST Math, a proven PreK-8 visual math instructional program, InsightMath is being collaboratively designed in conjunction with partners from AERDF-sponsored EF+Math and co-design teams of classroom educators, administrators, parents, and students to create a culturally relevant math curriculum that connects to all students and gives math meaning.
“At MIND, we believe that everyone is a math person,” said Brett Woudenberg, CEO at MIND Education. “We’re eager to meet the attendees of ISTE to continue conversations with educators that focus on how students learn math, see themselves in math, and as a result succeed in math.”
The InsightMath team will be offering a demonstration of the new curriculum, along with food and beverages, for ISTE attendees just a few blocks from the convention center. Attendees will be asked to share what they are experiencing with their current math curriculum before learning about the MIND approach to the science of learning math. After engaging in an InsightMath lesson, attendees will be asked to fill out a short survey and then be offered a $50 gift card for attending.
Demonstrations at the sessions will include:
- Student and teacher resources that incorporate MIND's patented neuroscience approach into the core math program;
- Instructional tools and strategies that are proven to provide equitable access and achievement for all students; and
- Lessons and activities that redefine student agency and uniquely allow students the opportunity to be authors of their own learning.
InsightMath is rooted in the concept of learning by doing, changing the question from “How do we teach?” to “How do students learn?” InsightMath empowers teachers to apply the latest research in their classrooms, equipping all students as they tackle challenging math problems and build lasting conceptual understanding. Students are encouraged to build their own learning—and an inclusive, equitable classroom—by sharing thoughts, strategies, and perspectives, positioning them each as mathematical resources for each other and themselves.
All sessions will be offered Tuesday, June 27 at the W Philadelphia located at 1439 Chestnut Street, just a seven-minute walk from the convention center. Session times include:
- Session 1: 8:00 am - 9:30 am (breakfast served);
- Session 2: 10:00 am - 11:30 am (morning snack served);
- Session 3: 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm (lunch served); and
- Session 4: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm (afternoon snack served).
