Reading Horizons Webcast Will Help Educators Identify and Support Students with Dyslexia

Dyslexia expert Donell Pons, M.Ed., MAT, will share best practices and resources that address the most common learning disability

(Salt Lake City, UT) November 15, 2016 — Reading Horizons, a multisensory curriculum used to rapidly increase reading skills, today announced its upcoming webcast, Dyslexia: What Every Educator Should Know.

The webcast will take place on Wednesday, November 30 at 6:00 p.m. ET and will be hosted by Donell Pons, M.Ed., MAT. Pons is currently the Literacy Coordinator at American International School of Utah, sits on the board of Decoding Dyslexia Utah, and is a tutor at the University of Utah Reading Clinic. She became a dyslexia expert and advocate after her husband and two of her four children were diagnosed with the learning disability.

“Dyslexia is the number one learning disability, yet many educators don’t recognize it in their students,” said Pons. “My mission is to support efforts to identify, screen, and remediate every student who struggles with reading and engage every K-12 teacher in the reading process.”

In the webcast, Pons will address the key signs of dyslexia and how educators can effectively identify them in their students. She will also offer information on the resources available for accommodating students with dyslexia, and will share best practices for highlighting student strengths and improving reading outcomes.

“Research has found that students with dyslexia can find reading success,” said Tyson Smith, the President and CEO of Reading Horizons. “They need targeted instruction that helps them build brain connections that allow them to make sense of the English language. The first step toward this success is a support system of educators who understand their unique learning needs.”

Educators interested in taking part in the webcast can register at readinghorizons.com/webcast to receive updates and the link to access the free presentation.

This is the second webcast in a professional learning series for educators offered by Reading Horizons. The first webcast, Teaching Reading: The Number One Job of Every Educator, can be accessed here.
