myON Partners with Super Bowl 50 to Donate More Than 5,000 Digital Books to 100 Bay Area Elementary Schools

Through August 31, children and families will have unlimited access to myON’s digital literacy platform from anywhere they want to read

(Minneapolis, MN) February 10, 2016 — To kick off Super Bowl 50 in the San Francisco Bay Area, myON, a business unit of Capstone and leading provider of personalized literacy solutions in the K-12 marketplace, teamed up with the 50 Fund and Tuck’s R.U.S.H for Literacy for a three-day weekend event to bring attention to early literacy and donate more than 5,000 digital books to 500 families.

Through a free, shared account, myON was pleased to provide unlimited access to digital books for independent reading to children and families in San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Solano, Sonoma, Napa, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, and Monterey. In honor of the January 31 Family Literacy Celebration and Super Bowl 50 a week later, this shared account was activated on January 31 and will remain available through August 31. This is an instant replay of the free access that myON provided during the summer of 2015, and is available to all children who are not already using their own school-assigned accounts to read with myON.

myON was also honored to announce its new partnership with Justin and Lauran Tuck and Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy to support and fund myON’s newest effort: providing subscriptions for 100 elementary schools in the Greater Bay Area. Individual student, educator, and administrator accounts to the myON personalized literacy environment will be set up for participating schools from February 1 through August 31, 2016. Through their own accounts, students and educators will have the same unlimited access to enhanced digital books on the myON platform, along with additional personalization features that include literacy tools to support independent reading and teacher-led instruction, and embedded metrics that monitor reading activity and growth.

Bay Area users have unlimited access to myON’s digital literacy platform from home, school, the library, community centers, and on the road. There’s no limit to the number of times readers can access the same book, and no waiting for books.

“As we celebrate the big game and the 50 Fund’s Re(a)d Zone literacy initiative, myON is pleased to continue the work we began together during the summer of 2015,” said myON’s CEO Todd Brekhus. “Our shared goal is to help students in the Greater Bay Area communities become proficient readers by the time they complete third grade, setting them on a path to lifelong learning and success. This brings us one step closer to our accomplishing our mission.”

During the three-day Super Bowl weekend literacy celebration, the myON team also distributed more than 10,000 hard-copy books from Capstone, and Brekhus spoke about the importance of grade-level reading during a January 31 event with Secretary of Education John King Jr.

Since its launch in 2011, myON has earned national recognition for its innovative approach to providing students with 24/7 online and offline access to a library of books personalized to match their individual interests and reading levels. The company recently launched myON 3.0, which includes new student and educator interfaces, advancements in content recommendations based upon individual student interests and Lexile® reading level, gamification, and enhancements to the state-of-the-art monitoring and reporting functions.
