The co-editor of the book will be joined by two of its writers to discuss the 16 leadership competencies that women need to rise to the top of their professions
(Phoenix, AZ) February 11, 2016 – At the annual American Association of School Administrators’ (AASA) National Conference on Education, Kathy Hurley, co-editor of the book Real Women, Real Leaders, will moderate an interactive panel called “Competencies for Emerging Educational Leaders” that will feature contributing authors to the book. The panel will take place on Friday, February 12, at 12:30 p.m. in room 129 of the Phoenix Convention Center.
Panelists will include Deb Delisle, the executive director of ASCD and former U.S. Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education; Susan L. Hall, president and co-founder of the 95% Group; and Maria Ott, a professor of clinical education at USC’s Rossier School of Education.
The interactive panel, based on research published in the Harvard Business Review, will examine 16 competencies for leaders. In the context of Real Women, Real Leaders, the panelists will discuss the qualities that emerging leaders need and share strategies for fostering these competencies in others.
Immediately after the panel, Hurley, Delisle, and Hall will hold a book signing at the AASA Conference Center Bookstore in the Convention Center that will be open to all attendees of the National Conference on Education.
“We hope that attendees at AASA will join us for our panel and the book signing afterwards,” said Hurley. “We look forward to having an engaging, interactive session that will help attendees learn how to cultivate and develop the 16 leadership competencies to build success.”
Real Women, Real Leaders is based on the 16 leadership competencies that Jack Zenger and Joe Folkman assessed in their research and detailed in their March 2012 Harvard Business Review article, “The Results Are In: Women Are Better Leaders.” Each story in the book sheds light on the women’s leadership attributes, skills, and relationships that have served them best. The women leaders in the book share how they overcame the obstacles and point out people they credit as instrumental in their journeys. The book also provides an opportunity for professional women to evaluate their own strengths and determine which skills they need to acquire as they formulate their personal roadmaps to the top.
The book is available for purchase online and at retailers nationwide. To learn more, visit Wiley, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books a Million, or 800-CEO-READ.
