Introduced just in time for FETC, Rugs alive inspires early literacy and teaches STEM concepts with animals that come to life on mobile devices
(ATLANTA, Georgia) January 23, 2019 — Alive Studios, a provider of augmented reality-based literacy tools for early learners, has unveiled Rugs alive, a classroom rug that brings wild animals and educational fun to life in the classroom.
Alive Studios is a Gwinnett-based software developer that creates mind-boggling learning experiences to increase student engagement and improve early literacy. Their new classroom rug and free Rugs alive mobile app can turn smartphones and mobile tablets into a magic window through which students can see 26 animals—one for each letter of the alphabet—come to life. As they practice their letters with the rug, students can also practice early STEM concepts by matching the right habitat with each animal.
Once they’ve selected the correct habitat for the animal, students can walk around it to explore, name its body parts, or talk with classmates about why it belongs in that habitat. Students can even take pictures of their classmates petting their virtual animal friends and then share the photos with others.
“People have been using animals to help children learn the alphabet and letters for generations,” said Cynthia B. Kaye, founder, CEO and chief zoo keeper at Alive Studios. “With the introduction of Rugs alive, those animals can now swing by the classroom themselves for fun and engaging strolls through the alphabet. Rugs alive is a perfect fit for any early learning classroom, STEM program, or media center.”
Alive Studios has been bringing animals to life in the classroom to help jumpstart early literacy, math, and STEM education for years, with 3D augmented reality products for the classroom and home such as Letters alive Plus, Math alive, and My Letters alive Journals. With Rugs alive, teachers can now bring that expertise in engaging young learners to the floor of their classroom for the same amount that they’d spend on a standard classroom rug. “Not only are the rugs beautiful and fun, they also allow us to bring our favorite zoo crew animals to life in my classroom to engage and excite the students!" said Mr. Greg Smedley-Warren, a kindergarten teacher at JE Moss Elementary in Nashville.
Interested educators can experience the magic of Rugs alive in person at FETC booth #2237.
